Strictly Science

Tom Gleeson – Cheer Up

There is no other comedian that can command the stand-up stage quite like Three time Best Comedy Nominee, Helpmann Awards, Tom Gleeson. Fresh from sold out runs around Australia, Gleeson is bringing his brand new hour of razor-sharp comedy to the nation’s capital for one night only.

Held Saturday 19 August at the Canberra Theatre Centre at various times.

Big Boys Toys – The Ultimate Playground

Time to play big! Like a play park for adults, The Ultimate Playground is stacked with some serious fun both indoors and outdoors. Enjoy drone racing action, old school arcade games, strongman competitions, mini paintball, virtual reality and a nerf every other big boy toy you can possibly imagine!

Held Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 August at Exhibition Park in Canberra.

Geoscience Australia Open Day

Find out how earthquakes are detected, learn how agriculture relies on discovery of precious water resources, discover how satellites have revolutionised our ability to access positioning information at the touch of a button, and learn how critical commodities make your smart phone work. 

Held Sunday 20 August at Geoscience Australia from 9am to 2pm.

Truffle Infused Winter Weekends at Cellar Door

Come into the cellar door at Mount Majura Vineyard to taste a flight of three wines matched with truffled brie. Is there anything better than truffles, cheese and wine?

Held each weekend from Saturday 3 June to Sunday 27 August from 10am to 5pm.

Tower of Tomorrow with LEGO Bricks

With intricate models towering over three metres high, kids and big kids alike will be impressed by creative models of some of the world’s most iconic buildings. Create your own tower of tomorrow with more than 200,000 loose Lego bricks in the hands-on-construction area.

Held Friday 28 July to Sunday 8 August at the National Museum of Australia from 9am to 5pm. Each session is 45 minutes in length.  

Night Ski & Ride

There is something thoroughly thrilling about skiing beneath the stars in the picturesque Tidbinbilla Mountain Ranges. Test your snow skills before warming up in front of an open fireplace and roasting giant, well-deserved marshmallows. Each night there is a different theme – try to master a new trick on Wednesday Park Night, take your fav girl for free on Girls Night, or indulge in a $10 woodfire pizza on Friday Family Pizza Night.

Held each Wednesday to Saturday from Wednesday 12 July to Saturday 2 September at Corin Forest from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.

Canberra Writers Festival

This three day festival attract book lovers, readers and writers from around the nation. Engage in an array of activities from panel and conversation sessions, workshops to lunches and intimate dining events. 

The 2017 festival theme is Power, Passion, Politics, reflecting the city's love affair with learning, knowledge and leadership. Hear about the great stories of our time, the history and current state of Australia's democracy and the role of the media and free speech in our public dialogue.
