What's on in Canberra!

Events ACT is your guide to what's on in Canberra this week. Here are 7 things you shouldn't miss!

National Multicultural Festival

A kaleidoscope of colours, sounds, sights, flavours and fun is set to transform Canberra when this festival unfolds in the city centre. Eat, drink, laugh and dance you way around the world. Celebrate difference, share traditions and see performances from all parts of the world. Filled to the brim with food stalls, comedy, musical performances, street parties and more there’s something for everyone at this festival.

Held on Friday 17 – Sunday 19 February in the city centre. Garema Place, Petrie Plaza, Civic square and City Walk will all be bustling with activity.

Prime Minister’s XI vs Sri Lanka

International cricket is coming to Canberra as the Prime Minister’s XI takes on Sri Lanka. Be in the heat of the action, enjoy a Mexican wave and try and catch a six. There will also be a curtain raiser between Papua New Guinea and the ACT Comets.

Held  on Wednesday 15 February the curtain raiser will kick off at 2:30pm with the main game starting at 7:15pm at Manuka Oval.

Cupid’s Undie Run

Make a date for a cure this Valentine’s Day weekend at Cupid’s Undie Run, where a little crazy meets a lot of charity. Raise money for the Children’s Tumour Foundation, strip down to your undies and join us in a charity run with a twist. Proceeds will go towards the fight against neurofibromatosis, a condition which often results in the growth of tumours on the outside of the body. Stripping down to your undies and feeling a little bit uncomfortable is a way of showing solidarity with people affected with this condition.

Held on Sunday 19 February 12pm – 4pm at Hoi Polloi, Old Parliament House. The run starts at 2pm.

Friday Night Drinks at Old Parliament House

Kick start the weekend with Friday night drinks at one of the most special bars in Australia. Think DJs, amazing food, craft beers and lawn games all set to the backdrop of this iconic location.

Held on Friday 17 February at 4pm until late at the Museum of Australian Democracy, Old Parliament House.

New Romantics Film Festival

Nostalgia, romance, and national dreaming are the stuff of Frank Capra’s rich and dreamy palette. Check out a delicious selection of groundbreaking contemporary cinema driven by new understandings of these ‘Capraesque’ themes to complement the National Film and Sound Archive’s Capra retrospective. New work from acclaimed directors will be shown in subsequent weeks exploring similar themes.

The New Romantics Film Festivalscreens films from 7pm every Friday night, until Friday 24 February, at The National Film and Sound Archive.

David Attenborough’s Virtual Reality Experiences

After a sell out season in London this virtual reality experience is lighting up the National Museum of Australia. Join David Attenborough as he travels back through time to see the first glimmerings of life on earth, or dive into a breathtaking underwater tour of the Great Barrier Reef. This feast for the senses is both whimsical and astounding.
