National Multicultural Festival

Eat, drink, laugh and dance around the world at the 2018 National Multicultural Festival. Celebrate difference, share traditions and see performances from all parts of the world throughout the festival. There will be live music, dancing, performance art, overwhelming food stalls, street parties and more local, national and international artists!

Legendary pop star Leo Sayer headlines the festival on opening night, supported by sensational indigenous rapper Baker Boy and local The Voice finalist Lucy Sugerman. The festival also welcomes Georgia soul man Michael Zaib, Chase the Sun, Wiradjuri Echoes, The Two Amigos, Satvik "Renagzy" Sharma and many more.

The 2018 Festival is not to be missed as we welcome guest chef Poh who'll be demonstrating her culinary skills in two sessions on Saturday 17th and signing copies of her latest book.

Held Friday 16 to Sunday 18 March at Garema Place, Canberra City.

Big Canberra Bike Ride

Canberra’s celebration of cycling returns to the shores of Lake Burley Griffin for Pedal Power ACT's Annual Big Canberra Bike Ride.

Many hundreds of people are expected to join the festivities, with rides to suit all levels of skill and experience a 5 km family ride and 20 km, 68 km and 120 km rides. There'll be free family friendly entertainment, activities and delicious food and drink at our event hub on Rond Terrace. All riders will receive a medal to commemorate their participation.

Held Sunday 18 February at Rond Terrace from 6am to 2pm.

Hyper Real

It’s your last chance to see Hyper Real. This blockbuster exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia is a compelling chronicle of the cycles of life and explores the fundamental question: what makes us human?

From eerily lifelike sculptures of uncanny figures with painted silicon skin, glass eyes, human hair to out-of-this-world virtual reality, Hyper Real provokes reflection, fascination, fear and joy.

Hyper Real will run until 18 February at the National Gallery of Australia 10am to 5pm.

The Bald Archy Prize

Watson Arts Centre is delighted to once again present the Bald Archy Prize, that eccentric icon of the Australian art calendar. Created in 1994 as a spoof of another more serious competition, the Bald Archy Prize provides a genuine opportunity for artists of all styles and standards to create portrait paintings of humour, dark satire, light comedy or caricature.

Known internationally as the only art competition in the world to be judged by a sulphur-crested cockatoo named Maude, the satirical side of this event has its basis in the irreverent, larrikin Australian comic comment.

Held 8 Feb to 12 March at Watson Arts Centre 10am to 4pm.

American Express Openair Cinemas

The festival vibes will be in full swing at American Express Openair Cinemas in Canberra. Join us on Patrick White Lawns for an array of alternative entertainment, live music and DJ performances before the latest and greatest feature films light up the big screen.

Held Monday 11 January to Sunday 25 February at Patrick White Lawns.
